What some recent people have said about their experience with me
In the month of October, Jack Wilkinson has not only proven how hard-working he is but has demonstrated qualities that anyone would want to emulate: grit, poise, loyalty, and professionalism. As a returning resident assistant, Jack has offered me—a first-year RA—so much guidance in the very short time I’ve known him. His encouragement and kindness make me strive for the same excellence he achieves on a daily basis.
Jack’s patience and openness have allowed him to form close bonds with all of his residents. Although he’s had to deal with some tedious situations this month, he’s handled them all with unwavering determination and positivity. If a resident were to ever show up at his door in the middle of the night, Jack would drop what he was doing to chat and listen to him or her. Moreover, whenever there’s an issue that arises on his floor, he always follows up with everyone afterward. Jack puts his residents and their needs first, allowing him to form strong relationships with them by making them feel both seen and heard.
In addition to always being there for his residents, Jack has been incredibly supportive of all the RAs on our team. His calm presence and caring attitude make everyone on the team feel like they can talk to him about anything. As a third-year RA, Jack came into this year already used to the expectations and requirements the job encompasses. He has used his knowledge to help new resident assistants, such as myself, with adjusting to life as an RA. Whenever I’m feeling stressed or worried about how I handled a situation, chatting about it with Jack always makes me feel better. Whether it be a quick conversation we have in passing or the occasional late nights we see each other working at the front desk, I will always appreciate Jack’s constant encouragement and his ability to make me laugh.
Just the last time I was hanging out with him at the desk, I received a message from one of my residents in need of assistance. Jack, without hesitation, said that we’d check it out together. Even though it wasn’t a resident from his floor, it didn’t matter to him; he is always willing to help anyone who’s going through I tough time. Not only did he accompany me to see what was happening, but Jack made sure everyone involved was doing alright and asked several times if there was anything else that he could do to alleviate the problem. His deep understanding of people and how easy it is for him to form connections with those around him makes him the perfect person to mitigate these challenges situations.
In addition to supporting both his and my residents this month, he also works closely with our complex’s hall council. Being on the Hall Council Committee, Jack’s responsibilities include supporting the members of the council by occasionally attending meetings or the events that they put on. However, Jack goes above and beyond by attending everything hall council related. Just last Thursday, he dedicated several hours of his time to help the council with their Boo Bash event that they were throwing. It’s no surprise that those on hall council speak about him so favorably, as he’s always there for them.
Between always checking up and forming close bonds with his residents, helping the new RAs adjust to their jobs, being so supportive to everyone living within the complex, and just being an amazing friend to me, I could not imagine anyone more deserving of recognition than Jack.
The month of October is one defined by chilling weather, warmer clothes, and for students, the looming dread and stress of midterms and responsibilities as they struggle to maintain their academic and mental wellness. I cannot think of anyone who helped the Dorman and Deviney Hall Council keep-up their mental wellness than Jack Wilkinson. The month of October was the first month that we, the Dorman and Deviney hall council, had to navigate how to plan, prepare, and execute events for our halls. This was compounded by the council members having numerous midterms, election campaigns, and academic counselor meetings. All of us, and specifically myself as the hall treasurer, would not have been able to successfully complete our responsibilities without the support of Jack. As the treasurer, I was given the responsibilities to manage and track our event budget for October, print promotional materials, request and pick up supplies from the executive board, and pick up the food order for the event. All of this culminated in a very stressful and activity heavy two weeks leading up to the event, and my mental health took a noticeable decline as everything began piling on. I have Jack to solely thank for helping me through this first month and ensuring my mental wellness was maintained, my stress managed, and all tasks completed in time for the event. Throughout the month, Jack talked and provided counseling to me to help guide my thoughts and manage my stress for the event. Every time I reached out he returned my questions and concerns, and was forthcoming about some concerns he had or ideas on how we could improve the planning and preparation of the event. One of the tasks I was given was printing promotional materials for our events during the month. Jack, without hesitation, offered to assist me in gaining access to our resource room which could only be unlocked by hall staff and RAs. When we arrived at the resource room and attempted to print the promotional materials, we realized the printer was broken. Without a second thought, Jack offered to drive me across campus to the other resource center as I suffer from a knee injury that makes longer walks and standing for long periods of time painful and destabilizes my knees. Jack was not required to do this, and spent over an hour extra helping me to the other resource room, which removed a physical hurdle and significantly reduced my stress about being unable to print the materials. This same scenario played out a second time during October, but this second time the other printer was broken as well. Jack then took it upon himself to talk with our residence coordinators and we were able to gain access to a third printer and get everything printed just in time. When the day of our active event arrived, the major concern was finding a driver to grab the food order with myself and get it back to the dorms before the event started. Jack, once again, volunteered his time and resources during midterms season to ensure our hall event went off without a hitch, driving myself and another council member to get the food order. Through all of these activities, Jack took the time to ask about myself and my health, and offered an unparalleled level of support during a stressful experience. I feel Jack should be recognized as the RA ‘Of the Month’ for October for his unparalleled level of support for the mental health of the hall council and the time and material support to ensure the event succeeded.
In the month of October, Jack Wilkinson has provided exceptional support for the Dorman & Deviney Hall Council. When Jack was first introduced to the new hall council members he made an effort to attend every single one of our meetings making it a point to stay the entire time, even through our 2.5 hr brainstorm meeting where we planned out our first October event. He provided insightful details to his experience with resident event planning, sending us a link to a list of school approved movies we can show. Jack also shared with us some creative ideas with our October event, Boo Bash, that helped us eliminate and determine what route to take. He went as far as to suggest the name "Boo Bash" with such high levels of excitement that the council too loved the name and used it officially.
Jack has also made a point to be the first to volunteer whenever he is available to help unlock the resource room for us to use. The most notable moment being when Jack assisted our treasurer into printing some flyers. He efficiently communicated with him in order to determine a clear meet up time and made the nice stroll down to Azalea going as far to stay and ensure our treasurer was able to print out his flyers. When he realized that the printer wasn't working in Azalea and our treasurer was in a knee brace, Jack volunteered to drive all the way around campus to try the McCollum resource room's printer. Parking already proves to be student with cars' biggest nightmare, so for Jack to volunteer to drive all the way over to McCollum for a quick print job shows the tremendous amount of dedication he has to helping his residents.
Jack has continued to always lend a helping hand when it comes to hall council's needs especially on event day. Starting off the morning with an hyped up text reminding us that it was Boo Bash day, he volunteered to drive and pick up 25 pizzas, a speaker, and a spikeball net with our treasurer for us. He continued to stay for set up and through clean up of our event, monitoring the check in table, and gathering RA's to help judge the costume contest. He also showed up in costume like the event advertised, complete with a Spider Man sweater.
So soon in the hall council year has Jack proved to be an asset to our team, and has shown his commitment to our hall council. It makes perfect sense as to why he would also be an Resident Assistant, providing the same highly praised support we have recieved to those who could also benefit. Hence why I am officially nominating Jack Wilkinson for the month of October!

When I think of someone who has been critical to the success of D&D hall council this year, one of the names that comes to mind is that of Jack Wilkinson. Jack serves as one of the RA liaisons for hall council, attending all of hall council’s events as well as taking us on long treks to the resource rooms. Jack has been an outstanding resource for the council, constantly offering his full support for the hall council’s endeavors, no matter how outrageous they may be. From the very start of the year, he supported member’s ideas of a slime making event, and helped lobby for a live cow to come to Dorman & Deviney, one of the council’s greatest accomplishments during their April event Kindergarten Kickback. His dedication to helping others and following through with his work demonstrates how committed and driven Jack is to the things he gets involved in. His unwavering support has allowed hall council to exceed far more than ever in their position, helping them put on a total of 15+ events this year. This past month, I, the historian for D&D, have been preparing the end of the year scrapbook requiring me to frequently print throughout the periods between events. Jack has been the RA who has taken me nearly every time I’ve needed to, communicating efficiently on when and where to meet as well as creating the walk over a fun experience. One week this month I went to the resource room 3 times. Jack escorted me every single time. But Jack’s efforts are not just limited to such a simple task such as walking and unlocking the resource room, but extend even further in his role as an RA. For our RA event collab, Duck Day, Jack helped serve giant pizza slices to residents. He ran around helping set up, and interacted with residents, creating such a fun environment to be in. He reminds his residents every time an event is going on about the halls adding to the hall council attendance but also providing his residents with an activity to engage in. Jack has truly been a valuable member of the team and his efforts to help and support are why I’d like to nominate him in the RA OTM category for April!
